GSSDA PRESIDENTS MESSAGE

Guess what folks?  Square dancing in South Georgia is not dead.  Lulline and I just got home from a cold Valdosta, the site of the 2010 GSSDA Winter Dance.  We are sure many dancers could not attend because of the weather.  The excitement and energy we noticed in the faces of the dancers as they danced and showed their appreciation for the calling, cueing and line dancing with a lot of cheers and applause, made this a very Special Dance.

We congratulate caller, George Lavender and his lovely wife Mary, and the Belles & Beaux Square Dancers, for being great hosts for this dance.  The food was great and bountiful and the atmosphere was just right.

Thanks to callers George Lavender, Chuck Mashburn, Mary Johnson, Jeff Kirkland, Gene Geoghagan and Jim Bush. Also thanks to cuers Fran and Jim Soos, Jackie & Gene Tyre, and Nell & Jerry Knight; and line dance leaders Linda Geoghagan and Paula Williamson for a great job.

Now, we need to focus on the GSSDA Spring Dance on May 1st with Trail End Dance, April 30th (fifth Friday) in Newnan, Georgia.  Host for this Spring Dance is the Rebel Reelers Square Dance Club.  Check flyer in this issue for time, directions and location.  On-site hookups for self- contained motor homes available.

The Lakeshore Squares in Gainesville, Georgia will be hosting a Leadership Seminar on June 19th.  The Seminar is for all square dancers, not just officers.  There will be dancing that evening.  Some dancers ask, “What do you do at a Leadership Seminar?”  Just come on, join us, and let us know what works for your club.  Maybe you can learn some new information to take back to your club.  So mark June 19th on your calendar.  We will let you know in the next Dixie Crier time and location.

As always, we welcome comments or suggestions.
